I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing like a good challenge (with myself) that motivates me more than anything. That is why I’m doing a 10 week Simply Sweet Challenge starting Sunday, January 12th. This may seem like an odd day to start a challenge, but it’s not to me! For starters, a challenge can start on any day/date as long as you set a goal that is important to you and put in time to plan and prepare for the challenge to help you be successful. I also chose this day because it’s after the plethora of unrealistic New Year’s resolutions that people make. In fact, the second Friday of January, which happens to be January 10th this year, is known as Quitters Day because most people give up on their resolutions around this time.
Why am I doing the Simply Sweet Challenge?
The Simply Sweet Challenge is something I am creating to bring me into alignment with my health goals. I recently noticed that I was gorging myself on sweets throughout the day, especially during moments of stress! I also wasn’t taking time to make sure I had healthy snacks on hand to reach for when I was feeling the need to crunch and munch. Because of this, my intake of vegetables, fruits and whole grains was not where it should be and I was consuming more cookies, candy, ice cream and refined processed foods than desirable. It is time to make a change because I want to live life to the fullest, and in order to do that, I need to energize my body with nutrient dense foods and cut back on the junk food!
What is the Simply Sweet Challenge?
The Simply Sweet Challenge spans 10 weeks and will focus on setting SMART goals to reduce the amount of added sugars in daily food intake and incorporate consumption of nutrient dense foods. SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound. Because the challenge uses SMART goals, it can be individualized to meet you where you are at in terms of readiness to make certain behavior changes! The purpose of having the challenge span 10 weeks is to help build long lasting behavior change. After all, a healthy lifestyle is a journey, not a destination!
More to come as I gear up to start the challenge!
